From Dr. Leo Kanner’s 1943 introduction of the term “Early Infantile Autism” to its current culture and rising prevalence, Autism Spectrum Disorder has changed drastically over the past 70 years. The purpose of this training is to educate teachers and related services providers on the history and culture of Autism to expand their understanding of this disorder that only 50 years ago was hypothesized as caused by lack of parental acceptance and affection. A detailed timeline of the history of Autism will provide a comprehensive overview to help educators realize the changes that have occurred and the importance of continued contributions to the fastest growing developmental disability in the United States.
